Funds counted and banked so far  = £800!

 School lunches.

Due to a problem that occurred with the gas supply in the school kitchen today, all children who have a school meal in the Infant and Junior school will need to bring a packed lunch on Monday. Today children were provided with a selection of healthy sandwiches, salad, plain crisps and the usual selction of desserts.  The school office will credit payments for Monday.

All parents should have received a text message this afternoon about these requirements for Monday.

HAITI APPEAL

At this moment in time our money counting machine is working at its fullest capacity counting all the coins donated to the Haiti relief effort. Similarly, there has been a continuous flow of donations from children who have made and sold cakes, set up toy stalls and involved themselves in physical activities to raise even more money. I do feel the children have really tried to empathise in whichever way they can with the troubles facing the children in Haiti.  We are so far away and it is beyond our comprehension how we would cope with such a disaster, but we have spent valuable time discussing the events and thinking about our global responsibilities.

A BIG THANK YOU to you all and the total amount raised should be available before the end of the school day.

TRAFFIC CONCERNS

I’m sure you are aware or even have been involved in the traffic congestion before and after school.  I am dismayed to learn that parents and carers resort to driving on the pavements at these times during the day!  I have contacted the Community Police Officer and the Parking Attendant Department to ask for professional support to prevent such actions and possibly a serious accident. We are aware that this is a problem around many local schools and so I am appealing to you to park and drive considerately to protect our children. I hope you can support us in this matter.

A Parents’ Information Evening will be offered on Thursday 25th February and led by our Community Police Officer; the topic being road safety.  This will also be an evening when we will inform parents and provide plans regarding the new building work that is due to start after the half term holidays. Look out for our letter regarding this event.

Following our Friday meeting we have decided to evaluate ICT use at home and at school. We are going to collect questions to ask the children in our school about the amount of access they have to the internet,  including social networking sites. How are they monitored to ensure they are safe?

We are  looking forward to hearing your suggestions for questions.

Several parents have reported incidents of wreckless driving outside the school premises before and after school. Cars are parking on double yellow lines and even mounting the pavement!  Everyone has a busy schedule but the possibility of a serious accident is growing.

I have contacted the Community Police Support Officer and the Traffic Attendant  Department at the Council to ask for help in protecting our children.  As parents, please do everything you can to make the journey to and from school safe. I will continue to talk to children in assemblies to encourage them to influence their parents and use road safety rules, however this is a problem that should be addressed by adults.

LOOK OUT FOR OUR GOVERNOR POST BOX IN THE LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN.

All pupils are welcome to look at the questions posed and offer their comments back to the Governing Body.  They will repond to your comments in person during assembly time next week.

Having  talked to the children during assembly, there has been an overwhelming desire from them to raise funds to help the people who are suffering  in Haiti after the terrible natural disaster last week.  I have invited the children to post their ideas for fund raising on this page so that we can select something that is manageable and quick to organise as funds are desperately needed by charities.   Some children came to me today with sums of money they have raised from baking cakes and selling them to friends and family at the weekend.  Their community and global spirit is really ‘fired up’ so I’m sure we will have lots of great ideas.

School closed on Monday 4th January.

Oh dear! Just when we thought we could really get down to work at the start of the term it seems as though we have been defeated, not by the weather but by the gas supply!
Please refer to the office blog to read the details about Monday. We expect to be open for children on Tuesday if work is completed, however all parents will be contacted by text or telephone to enable them to make arrangements as soon as we have the information. Do not hestitate to contact the school office if you have any worries, otherwise look out for out communications on Monday. Please be assured we are doing all we can in partnership with the LA to open as usual on Tuesday.
